Apple Acquired transit and navigation service-Hopstop

Transit directions have been one of the major missing components from Apple’s Maps App, which has released last year to replace Google Maps in IOS6 and on the iPhone 5.

Hopstop, which was iPhone, Android and web applications provides detailed subway, bus and taxi directions in 600 cities.

Hopstop is one of the best transit apps for ios and this acquisition is perfectly timed for a new improved Apple maps to launch alongside ios7 this fall.

Apple, which touted the map features as a key software change in the iPhone5, built its navigation application amid a growing battle with Google, which had provided its Google maps programme since the iPhone was introduced in 2007.

Google unveiled its mapping application for the iPhone and iPad in December. Google maps is the most popular free program in Apple’s app store. Hopstop ranks No.7 among free navigation tools.

Transit directions are currently one of the Apple’s mapping weaknesses since the company rolled out its own homegrown maps inside of 2012’s ios6. People looking for buses, trains or subway directions are currently sent to third party navigation apps if installed, taking users outside of Apple’s own mapping software.
